Last Week's Practice Recap:
Sprinters - Rank/Record Workout LINK
Timed 10m flys, learned how R-S comes out of blocks, and ran first major lactic acidosis work out of the year (23-second drill)
10m Flys Key Takeaways - Started the season with max velocity in a great spot. We had 12 guys hit 20 mph or better. Every returning runner that did the drill improved their 10m-fly from last year.
The biggest improvements are Gabe Jonas (.10 better), Sam Knoll (.11 better), Jayden Strum (.14 better), and Cael Faber (.17 better).
23-Second Drill Recap - This went AWESOME for the group! This was not only the best early season 23-second drill results ever but we were able to have the best results ever across every time we have done this drill.
Key Highlights include (23-Second Drill - Through the Years): 5 Guys over 200m which is tied for most in R-S history.
Furthest a freshman has ever gone (L. Smith - 202m)
Most over 190m we have ever had.
Most freshmen over 195m ever (7). Most prior to this was 1.
Heston’s 203m is tied for #1 ever (tied w/ his brother)
201m+ has only been done 8 total times before Friday and we had 4 guys hit that mark.
Distance Guys
Lots of Interval and easy tempo work to increase our speed and endurance last week.
Interval work was 300m w/sub-minimal recovery time.
We are way ahead of previous years here and the number of guys that are already hitting our interval goal times has been super impressive.
We need to keep pushing the mileage for some guys so as the year progresses and we increase our speed work you are able to finish races faster than ever before.
Throwers
We are so far ahead of our distances from last year it is exciting to see. Last year at this time we didn’t have a discus guy throwing over 100’ or shot put guy throwing much over 36’
As our season progresses it's exciting to think how much improvement we will see. If we follow last year as a guideline we should see a 150’ discus guy and two 45’ shot put guys.
