Roland-Story Boys Track & Field: 2025 Season Recap – A Legacy Continued

The 2025 Roland-Story Boys Track & Field team continued to build on its proud tradition with another remarkable season defined by consistency, growth, and great performances. Finishing 3rd in the Heart of Iowa Conference and capturing the title at the State Qualifying Meet, the Norsemen qualified 11 events to the IHSAA State Track Meet—an achievement that showcases the depth, balance, and competitive spirit of this year’s squad.

This spring was filled with standout moments. The 4x200m relay team of Fiston Carlson, Ryan Fosse, Heston McIlrath, and Tristan Crabbs shattered the school record with a blistering time of 1:30.06, earning a 7th-place finish at state. The sprint medley squad (Carlson, Fosse, Crabbs, McIlrath) also etched their names into the record books, clocking a new program-best 1:35.59 at Drake Stadium. Meanwhile, the shuttle hurdle relay—featuring Jake Berggren, Cody Long, Carter Barber, and Jayden Strum—delivered a historic performance of 1:01.16, now the fastest in school history.

Distance standout Evan Voga capped off his senior campaign with a remarkable triple at the state meet, highlighted by a 1:58.76 in the 800m and a 4:40.18 in the 1600m. Sophomore CJ Lucchesi surged late in the season, breaking the 10:05 barrier in the 3200m to place 16th at state.

The team finished 47th in the overall 2A standings at the state meet, but that number hardly tells the full story. With 18 personal records set over the final three weeks, the Norsemen closed the season with the kind of momentum and hunger that only bodes well for 2026.

Special recognition goes to the program’s award winners:

  • Senior MVP: Evan Voga

  • Junior MVPs: Jayden Strum & Tristan Crabbs

  • Sophomore MVPs: Fiston Carlson & Corben Lucchesi

  • Freshman MVP: Colin Willis

  • Coaches Award: Ryan Fosse

As always, the senior class leaves behind more than just marks in the record books—they leave a legacy of competitive fire, leadership, character, and relentless effort. “When seniors are the hardest workers, this program is always at its best,” Coach Petersen reflected. “The standard they set is one the underclassmen now own.”

The outlook for 2026 is already bright. With young talent spread across every event group and an early 2026 goal of 35+ potential points for next year’s state meet, the foundation for another chapter of success is firmly in place. As Coach B put it best at the season-ending ice cream social: “If you’re not doing anything between now and next season, you’re not a year better—you’re just a year older.” The work begins now.

Go Norse.
